Julie W Chang’s “Totem” considers the indigenous people who were the original inhabitants of Colorado and the various federal agencies that currently inhabit the space. Located along the pathway leading to Federal Building 53’s entrance, the Corten steel sculpture stands 16 feet tall and 4 feet in diameter. Woven into the sculpture are symbols chosen for their resonance with the agencies. Feathers, the Boa Me Na, the Blue Lotus, and the Eye symbolise interdependence and cooperation, life, rebirth, and healing, wisdom and intelligence, as well as clarity, intuition, and insight, protection, health, and restoration.
