Maiden's Dress

Located at the Willie Woo Woo Wong Recreation Center in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Chang’s “Maiden’s Dress” integrates the existing grid of raw CMU blocks into the design to evoke weaving or embroidery.  Red Chinese knots and bamboo signify good fortune and resoluteness.  The Peony, expressed as a calligraphic line, signifies abundance and honor and references the Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden, the most widely disseminated printed manual of Chinese painting, originally compiled during the early Qing Dynasty.
