Art on Market Street Poster Series

The Art on Market Street Program, which has commissioned new artwork by Bay Area artists on an annual basis since 1992, includes a bus kiosk poster series and other temporary projects that take place on San Francisco’s main thoroughfare. Each poster series consists of a set of six original and related designs that are printed as six sets of posters for installation in 36 bus kiosks on Market Street between 8 th Street and the Embarcadero.

“Expand" (Red) is inspired by the Asian Art Museum, the Artist's Television Access, the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, the San Francisco Opera, artist Marsha Shaw, the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco's street performers, and the ODC Dance Commons.

“Transform” (Yellow) is inspired by San Francisco’s street performers, Cupid’s Span by Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Opera, San Francisco's Film Festivals, artist Enrique Chagoya, and the San Francisco Improv Festival.

“Imagine” (Green) is inspired by the San Francisco Jazz Festival, San Francisco’s Artist's Television Access, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, performance artist Erika Chong Shuch, poet Allen Ginsberg, and the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival.

“Challenge” (Orange) is inspired by San Francisco’s street performers, the De Young Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, and San Francisco's Film Festivals.

“Reveal” (Blue) is inspired by the San Francisco Blue Grass & Old-Time Festival, the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco's Film Festivals, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Artist's Television Access, artist Ricardo Richey, and dancer-choreographer Aleta Hayes.

“Celebrate” (Purple) is inspired by the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, the San Francisco Opera, artist Amy Ellingson, the Black Rock Arts Foundation, the San Francisco Ballet, and the San Francisco Symphony.
